Synopsis:

Dirtwater's straight-talking Deputy Sheriff Rania Aqualina has a lot on her plate: a nicotine addiction that's a serious liability for a mermaid, a solider-of-fortune ex who's hooked on her Mom's brownies, a gorgeous, naked stranger in her shower, and a mysterious dead blonde with a fish tattoo on Main Street. Oh, and one other thing. She's scheduled to die on her thirtieth birthday - in three weeks - unless she can 'change the course of destiny and save the world entire'. Throw in a mother who's the local Mayor and a father who's been locked up in the county jail for the last 12 years, and that's all the trouble she needs without her mermaid roots coming back to haunt her.

Rania's heading home to Aegira for a family wedding but she's starting to have a sinking feeling that's got nothing to do with hydroporting seven miles under the sea and everything to do with some weird connections that seem to be emerging between her, the dead blonde, her Mom's shady past and a ten thousand year old prophesy. Now if she can just steal a corpse, get a crazy Aegirian priest off her case, work out who the hell's trying to kill her and stop sleeping with the fishes, she might be able to unravel the prophesy, the mystery of the missing choirgirls and the secrets hidden in her Mom's past. And maybe even save her own ass while she's at it.

Fish out of Water is crime fiction meets hip fantasy (Stephanie Plum meets Splash), and the first book in a series about Aegira, an underwater kingdom based on the historical Norse legend of Aegir, God of the bountiful seas, his goddess wife Ran, and their nine daughters, the billow maidens.

My Review:

Ok so this book blew me away. The writing, the story, the characters, ALL of it. This book works magic with your mind. From the first page my interest was hooked. This book is an original all in its own. I wasn't reminded of any other books and loved this fact. There is nothing to compare it to, its just fantastic. Rania is a spit-mouth, quick talking, rocking chick. She doesn't take shit form anyone and speaks her mind. I just adored her. She has quite the adventure ahead of her in this book and she rocks it. The storyline for this kept me hooked the entire time. There weren't any chapters that lagged or left my interest wavering. You are constantly learning new things about the characters and the story of their land. Secrets unfolding, and kidnappings to boot. Its fantastic. And the men. Oh boy the men of this book <3 The ANGST! It was infuriating and enveloping all at the same time. I just couldn't get enough. You really get hooked on solving the mystery. Its truly fun to read. Every character has their won story and little by little you piece it together. Its like really getting to know them as you read. Some books come right out and tell you about the characters, but this book is diferent. You get to know them a little on each page. Parts of their history come out with the murder and its just wonderful. As for the ending. I don't know what I am going to do waiting for the next book. Its not a cliff hanger but its close lol. I really just loved this author and can't wait to read her other short stories to hold me over for the next book. 5 stars!
