Amy's Review:

When someone asks me for a contemporary romance recommendation, I always think of Sawyer Bennett's Off series. Being partial to those characters, she had something major to live up to with this new series. She totally delivered :) On the Rocks is book one in the new Last Call series and it was a fabulous read.
On North Carolina's Outer Bank shore resides a bar called Last Call. I assume this new series will revolve around the lives of people who work at and near this bar. Starting of course with On the Rocks featuring none other than the bars owner, Hunter Markham.
Hunter, prior resident of Outer Banks returns home after a decade of living his dreams as a pro surfer. Hello HAWT! Hunter is described as a beach bum, surfer hottie, and considering I live in Hawaii I was super excited. Of course being a surfer, Hunter has always had his fair share of ladies giving him attention. Returning home, his focus shifts from lady lover to devoted business owner and family man intent to help his twin through a trying time.
Enter Gabby. Gabby is an old family friend and Hunters baby sisters best friend. Years ago there was a shared kiss and broken heart on Gabby's side, but Hunter seemed unaffected. To say Gabby is not thrilled to have Hunter back in the Banks is an understatement. Gabby is a general contractor with a hot mouth and a body to match. Winning a bid to work the expansion project at Last Call, Gabby is forced to work side by side with Hunter, her man crush of more years than she can remember.
Working together, hating each other, loving each other, ahhhh makes for a great love story!! I was rooting for this couple from the beginning. I wanted to knock their heads together and yell "just quit messing around and reveal your feelings". In true Sawyer fashion, there are some twists and turns and people trying to drive a wedge. They are tested as a couple, tested as friends and tested with life decisions. I absolutely loved this book. Perfect catalyst for a new series :)
Sawyer's books have a beautiful complexity that I appreciate. Even though the story is based on Hunter and Gabby, we see peeks of Alyssa, of Cassie, or Brody, of John. Boy do I hope they all get books. I can't wait to ride a wave with this group and get to know each player better. Thanks for the amazing new Series Sawyer!!

He spurned Gabby Ward once, crushing her young heart, and then left to travel theworld for fame and glory. Now Hunter Markham has come back home to the sand and salty breeze of the North Carolina Outer Banks so he can open up Last Call, a beach bar nestled among the dunes of the Atlantic. Gabby Ward is not happy that Hunter has returned. Bitter over his rebuff years before, she’s content to stay far away from him and his dangerously charming ways. Gabby’s well-schemed plans to ignore Hunter go up in flames when he presents an offer to her that she simply can’t refuse, throwing them together in a common quest to each reach their goals. Working together day in and day out proves to be problematic for Gabby, who soon realizes that the feelings she had for him are still very much alive. Hunter struggles to reach through to Gabby’s cold heart, all while starting a new career away from his life as a top ranked, professional surfer. What starts out as a mutual business arrangement soon turns into a passion that neither of them can continue to deny. Hard choices lay ahead for both of them when Hunter is offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to return to the pro surfing tour. Choices that could destroy what they have built or take them further than they ever had dared to hope. About the Author USA Today Best-Selling author, Sawyer Bennett, is a snarky southern woman and reformed trial lawyer who decided to finally start putting on paper all of the stories that were floating in her head. She is married to a mobster (well, a market researcher) and they have two big, furry dogs who hog the bed. Sawyer would like to report she doesn’t have many weaknesses but can be bribed with a nominal amount of milk chocolate. Website | Facebook | Twitter | Amazon
