Favorite Quote: “If I were just a boy, and you were just a girl, I wouldn't kiss you once like you asked." He paused and my heart dropped. Oh. "Eden, I'd kiss you long, and I'd kiss you often.”
Becoming Calder was an emotional bomb. I was one of the few that didn't read the synopsis before jumping into this novel. Mia is one of those authors that I will read absolutely any book she publishes. I can say with absolute certainty that Becoming Calder is my favorite so far of her published books. It was a work of art.
This novel is like no other. There are VERY few books that I can't compare to any other, this is one of those. This novel is unlike anything I have ever read, and emotional took me to a completely other level. It amazes me sometimes how much a novel can move you emotionally.
As Eden and Calder grow up, they live in a world where modern things aren't a reality. Calder lives with the bare minimum, bathing in a river and spending the day working with his hands. From the moment he saw Eden she sparked something in him. The same goes for Eden. The only rule they know is that they are completely off-limits to each other. Eden is the Savior. The one that will bring on the prophecy. Calder, is nothing. In the scheme of their world, he doesn't matter.
When Eden and Calder meet as young adults, for the first time alone, the scene left me speechless. From that moment on I was holding out my hope. I knew some things from the prologue, but I was rooting for them. I wanted that HEA.
This novel is all about wanting what our heart and mind know is meant for us, but knowing you can't have it. Calder and Eden know that they are meant for each other. They know what true love is, and they have found it. They both want more from the life they are in.
This novel had me in its thralls for days. After I finished this I instantly jumped into Finding Eden. The ending to this novel leaves you breathless. Don't miss this wonderful and emotional read. It is like no other.
There is a place in modern day America with no electricity, no plumbing, and no modern conveniences. In this place, there is no room for dreams, no space for self-expression, and no tolerance for ambition.
In this place, there is a boy with the body of a god and the heart of a warrior. He is strong and faithful and serves his family honorably. But he dares to dream of more.
In this place, there is a girl with the face of an angel and a heart full of courage. To her family, she is the vision of obedient perfection. But she dares to want that which she has been told can never be hers.
Becoming Calder is the story of good versus evil, fear versus bravery, and the truth that the light of love has always found its way into even the darkest of places . . . From the beginning of time, to the end of the world.
