Meg's Review:
I stated this novel with full intentions of reading it over the course of a few days. I wanted to enjoy every juicy moment, but alas, this IS a Rachel Van Dyken book and that is not possible. This novel is a whole new ball game. ever novel I read in this series I get a new favorite, the same happened with this installment. By the end of it? I was quite sure I gained another.Tex. I have loved him from the first novel when he was announced. He solidified himself in my heart in book 3 of the series. This book though, this book was a ride. Intense is the best word to describe it. I felt as though everything came to a head in this book and then combusted. Tex and Mo ended leaving us with a big cliffhanger at the end of book three. So Tex did the only thing he could, he took all responsibility and put it on his shoulders. Top that mess up with being the new Capo dei Capi and things get even more complicated. Mo. Mo has secrets, like all of our mafia family, these secrets can be the death of those she loves. I felt for Mo in this book. She was so broken and so strong at the same time. She knew what she wanted, what she wished for, and was going to do anything to make sure it happened.Favorite Quote: "Welcome to the Mafia, blood in, well isn't that just shitty, there is no freaking out."
Don't fret though, even with half this book being shooting and mafia war, this novel doesn't lack at all in the hilarity and love that is the Eagle Elite.
This book had so many Huge surprises I am not sure what to talk about and what not to. Every chapter bring something new to the table. Some you slightly expect, and others you don't see coming from a mile away. Rachel has been leading us up to this point and it really does not disappoint. All the questions I wasn't aware I had, were answered. Then new ones were thrown into the mix. The characters in this book all develop in different ways. Some of them show us whole new sides, and others, other show their true colors. It was a book filled with revelations and people coming into their own. Rachel's best work yet.Synopsis:
Cursed, numb, rejected, scorned, wicked, sinister, dark, twisted...my name is Tex Campisi and this is my legacy. I killed my father in cold blood and lost my soul right along with him.I crave war more than peace, and I'm about to take my place in history as the youngest Capo dei Capi in the Cosa Nostra...that is until someone stops me, saves me from myself.
But the only person able to do that...is my best friends sister, Mo Abandanato, and she just ripped my heart out and asked me to hold it in my hands while she put bullets through it.
Im cursed so I did it.
I'm numb so I held it.
I'm wicked so I liked it.
I used the pain Mo caused as a catalyst to turn into my biggest nightmare--the five families greatest enemy. It's my turn to take a stand, knowing full well I'm going to lose my mind to the madness that is the American Mafia. I've always been told Blood is thicker than life. I wish I would have listened. Because regardless of who you love? You will betray. You will kill.
Blood Always Wins.
The only way out is death...yours.
Welcome to the Dark Side of the Family.
