Forever Summer Reading with Jenny Holiday!

What’s in My Beach Bag – Jenny Holiday
The beach for me = the Great Lakes. I live about half an hour from Lake Erie and an hour from Lake Huron. There are so many great beach towns on both shores, and summer to me is boardwalks and fried perch and jumping in the waves. This is what I have in my beach bag. 1. A computer. I know, it’s sad. But if I’m going to be parked somewhere for a while, I really can’t not take it. I feel naked when I don’t have it with me. What if I’m just staring at the lake and I suddenly feel the need to write half a chapter? 2. A Kobo and a Kindle. Yes, two e-readers. The why of this is a long story for another time, but suffice it to say I have a complicated book buying/borrowing protocol that has resulted in me having two e-readers. And you never know which one you’re going to need at any given moment. 3. Cheetos. Yes, Cheetos. What can I say? I’m sorry? (I’m not sorry.) 4. Vichy Ideal Soleil Ultra Light Lotion. This is a fancy name for the best sunscreen in the world. It is the only sunscreen I put on my face whether I’m going to the beach or to an important meeting. It absorbs instantly and isn’t tacky, and you can put makeup over it immediately if that’s your thing. However, it costs approximately eight million dollars a bottle, so I don’t share. Which means I also have in my bag a giant drug store bottle of sunscreen for husbands, friends, offspring, and hangers-on. 5. LEGO. Because there is LEGO in every bag I own. Because my child has to bring LEGO everywhere and then we both forget about it until next time the bag is in rotation. When he wins the Pritzker Prize in architecture, this will become a charming anecdote. 6. Alexis Hall’s How to Bang a Billionaire books. I am obsessed with these books and plan to read them back-to-back this summer. (Something I haven’t done because I’ve read them as they’ve come out and there has been a painfully long wait between books). They are funny, lyrical, smart, a little bit heartbreaking, and just plain astonishing. What’s in your beach/lake bag?
Now its my turn. My bag is not nearly as fun as Jenny's. My bag consists of a small zipper bag that a tote around with me. I keep my phone because, hello, millennial here, my Wallet, keys, a mini first aid kit - hello mom of two boys- and last but not least a small bag of legos and assorted snacks. Again, I am a mom always on the go. If you asked me what is in my car, this list would be a book length. Nothing super fun or crazy, but you never know what mini ninja go character you will pull out when you reach in. --
