This is one of those novel that emotional rips you apart. I tried to prepare myself before reading, but sometimes a book just hits you at the perfect time and there is no preparing for that. This novel is a masterpiece.
Reading Heart of Light is not necessary before this book. They are both standalone novels, but I do recommend it. I don't know if I could have survived without Heart Of Light.
Heart of Marley is Marley's story. It is also just as much Cams. This novel shows us how Cam came to be the man we love in HoL. It also breaks your heart. Over. And. Over. It breaks your heart and forces you to absolutely become invested in its characters and their story. This is the type of book that you will never forget. Those pivotal moments in it that forced you to hold you breath or lash out at your e-reader. You wont ever forget them.
Marley and Cam did not have a childhood to envy. If you read the Synopsis, you know that Marley and Cam's father died and after that their life went downhill. With their mother battling addiction, and her boyfriend that like his girls young, their life because one of nightmares.
Cam saves his sister and through more battling, they end up living with their Aunt and Uncle. The nightmare is over. Well, on the surface. That nightmare still haunt Marley. Every minute, or every day she is haunted my the events that store 3 years of her innocence.
The start of this novel broke me. It has been along while since I felt truly gotten by a novel and this one did that to me within a few pages. The eloquence in which T.K. Leigh writes this novel is truly a thing to behold. The words wrap around you and with each page you are drawn further into the story.

I am still reeling from this novel. SO much happens in it, that day later I am still processing. This is a novel about coming of age. A novel about facing the demons in ones past and fighting for oneself. All Marley wants to to be okay. She is constantly battling with herself to prevail. To take off the mask and truly feel how everyone thinks she feels. She is broken, shattered, and that mask that she wear has ever her best friend the dark.
sometimes bad things happen to good people and it is horrible. Despicable. Things like this are often swept under the rug and ignored. That is Never okay. Never. This is exactly what happened with Marley. We take this journey wit her as she fights to come into the light. To be in control of her own life.
This is a novel you cannot miss. I can't stress that enough. It breaks your heart, I will admit that, but it does so much more as well. This novel is empowering and shows you how important support can be. I just can't find the words. This is definitely a top read for 2014 for me. Buy it. Don't forget the tissues and wine, you will need them.
