Ahh! This novel was the epitome of a H-O-T read. Gwen blew me away. This was my first novel from the author and it can be read as a standalone. I promise you though, you will want to read all the novels, because I most certainly do.
Rex and Charlotte's story is a fast paced and steamy read. From the first page they are non stop. While you are reading, it feels as though a lot of time has passed, but the book takes place over the course of 4 days. Thats it. I say this to try and show you how much fantastic development was put into this novel. After reading it in its entirety, I felt as if I knew all the characters and had forever. I jumped into he third novel in the series, and still had no trouble getting to now everyone or following along. THAT is good writing.
Charlotte is a lawyer that prides herself on her pro-bono work for women. She has made her career knocking down guys like Rex. So why is she the lawyer that he calls when he is charged with just a such event. Of course, he is innocent. Charlotte just has to prove it.
From that moment on I felt like I needed to fan myself with the turn of each page. The immediate and undeniable chemistry between the characters was palpable. Granted, they both did their best to stay professional, people only have so much self control.
The scenes in this novel were expertly written. I am not always a big fan of lots of sex, but in this novel it really worked for the characters. It didn't feel forced or over written. Gwen has a talent with balancing just the write about of Erotic with romance.
This was a HIGHLY enjoyable read that I would recommend to anyone that likes a good racy romance. Again, it can be read as a standalone, but I have a feeling that this series as a whole would be best done its justice being read for the start.
