Ben and Echo's story embodies everything we loved most about this series. Jasinda has a knack for giving us exactly what we wanted, coupled with everything we didn't know we needed wrapped up in a novel that takes you to your emotional extremes.
If you haven't read the first 3 novels in this series I recommend that you do. They are phenomenal and integral for really getting a full grasp on this novel. Ok, so if you have already done that, then be prepared to have your heart shattered and put back together piece by piece. This novel is a roller coaster of emotion that you can help but take a ride on.
We ended with Ben riding off into the sunset, and that is exactly what he does. He is wandering. Trying to find a way to move on with his life from he events of Falling Under. His heart if broken and all he is doing is existing. He finally finds himself playing minor league ball and starting to build a somewhat life when an injury wrecks what little hope he thought he had.
"It's a bargain with the devil, and it's F**king pathetic, and I hate myself for it But it gets the job done."
It was very emotional to watch and read the one thing Ben thought he had, being taken from him. Then we are with Ben starting to process of healing without any of his family, by choice. He is such a strong character that you can't help but be astounded by the way he handles things. It is as if when life throws him a curve ball he asses the possibilities and just does what needs to be done.
Then life strikes again and things really start to get interesting. Now, you never really know what you are going to get with a Wilder novel, so at one point I found my self somewhat okay with where I thought the novel was going. You will see what I mean. Then I felt really crazy when it took another turn and I was wrapping my mind around that direction. This is the kind of thing that makes a novel really great. You start to invest yourself with one choice and then moments later you are doing the same thing in another instance. It's a talent that I love about Jasinda.
Enter Echo. I adored her as a character. I felt like when she entered this novel she brought with her all of those important themes that we loved int he first 3 novels. I wont go into any detail about Echo, because really anything I say will be a spoiler. But Echo is the embodiment of everything I love in this series. I absolutely fell in love with her and this novel.
A story that grips you emotional from the first page to its last. This is one that you can't miss. If I could have rated it my top of 2014 I would have. This novel was just THAT good. Like the others in the series, it takes on some hard truths and realities and does it in a way which really gives you that intimate look into them. It boggles my mind how on point some of these situations are with so many people's lives.
"You can fall Echo. I'll catch you. Because I'm falling too, and I need you to catch me, too."
This really is a novel you don't want to miss. Go buy it quick and settle into one of the best reads of 2015 you will have.
