The Shadow by Sylvain Reynard (The Florentine Series)

Sometimes when you finish the first book in a series you are DYING to read the second. Other times you loved the first, but you aren't in any hurry for the second. This is one of those series that left you on your toes waiting for the next page. The next page that starts the second book that is. Upon starting this novel I knew things were bound to get very interesting very quickly. I wasn't sure where the author was going to take it, only that is was going to be well worth it to dive in head first and buckle up for the ride. This novel was CRAZY. From one chapter to the next I still had no idea where it was going other than the fact that a lot of little things that had been brewing were about to explode. You knew there was the traitors, you knew the hunters were possibly coming, and you also knew there was the possibility of war. With all this sitting in our minds we were left with William ready to give Raven her gift. I will admit I kind of had an idea where that part was going, but the end of that was not something I predicted. Those are the best kind of surprises. This novel forces the characters to all face some hard truths. They all have to decide where they stand and who they stand with, because everything is about to come apart. With Allies changing sides you aren't sure who is on what team while reading. It makes for a suspense filled drama that you can't put down. William and Raven are also forced to adapt in this book. Both characters have to grow with the changing situations and decide where they want to see themselves in the future. Absolutely engrossing. I could not put this novel down! The Shadow is the perfect title for this book. With everything looming over our couple, they must discover the truths and bring them to light.
