I didn't think I could love a book more than I loved the Star Sequence series by Jettie. I was very wrong. This book put me in and out of the ringer more times than I can count. The synopsis is a great start to the idea of the books so make sure you read it. This book is Morgan's story. A story that I am so glad I got to read. I would have to rate this book a top for the year for me. Morgan is pulled out of her trailer park hell life and sold quite literally into a 360 version of another hell. Bought by a man to become his wife Morgan is thrown into a submissive rule strewn life. She is abused emotionally, physically, mentally, and all those in between. The first portion of this book was very graphic and some parts I honestly cringed. Not bad writing or storyline cringed, but Oh MY is this really happening cringe. Parts were horrific, and then they weren't. We were given glimpses of hope and thats what I held on to for Morgans sake. Her life was glamourous and beautiful on the surface, but you know what they say about behind closed doors.Well that phrase is the perfect description of her life. Until she escapes. Morgan gets out and starts a new life, one where she is in love and has a beautiful house on the beach in a small perfect town, only to find herself back at the beginning where it all started. Great storyline, Epic twists. Relatable characters, this book was a complete pack of greatness. It was a big page turner for me. I stayed up all night to read it. It was one of those you HAD to know what was going to happen. Jettie always writes a great book, but I vote this at the top. These characters were great. So much depth and so many small plots going on within the story that there wasn't a dull moment. I don't want to give anything away, and this book definitely has some Huge Twists thrown in but I honestly Loved it. I Loved the ending and it is a book that will stay with me. It had a sort of Consequences by Aleatha Romig feel to parts of it if you want a same genre book. One of those that stretches you mind's limits and gets you really thinking about the situation. 5 stars with no doubt from me. It was great. Let me start by saying, this book needs a warning. Oh nevermind, it has one, but still ... this book blew me away. This was my first Jettie Woodruff read and I am a total fan!
"Of all of the thirty-six alternatives, running away is best."
By reading this simple line, I was hooked. Morgan was a girl from the wrong side of the tracks. She had a horrible upbringing and wished for nothing more than to be wanted and loved and important to someone. Unfortunately, that is not what life had in store for her. She meets Drew on what she believes to be a chance encounter and that's when her true nightmare starts. She had no more wishes or dreams or goals or self worth once she was forced to marry Drew .. and that was hard to read. Morgan was forced into a living hell full of physical and emotional abuse. I squirmed in my seat on numerous times at the shear brutality Drew showed and I wanted to punch him in the throat, more than once.
The story is written with a lot of flashbacks, I will admit I found it a little hard to keep up, but I learned to love it. When Morgan found the strength to leave Drew, I cheered out loud, big tears of joy. Misty Bay, Maine would be Riley Murphy's (a.k.a. Morgan) new home. Riley looked over her shoulder and kept her head down and learned to move on. She found friends and a new life and even a man. Dawson was any womans dream. Dawson held Riley when she cried over what Drew did to her, he loved her when she didn't have the ability to love him back and he supported her need to keep her previous life a secret. Riley became self sufficient and independent and it was beautiful to read.
This book had more twists than a roller coaster ride, but boy did I love it. Everytime I thought .. ah ha, I know what is going to happen. I was so incredibly wrong. Love triangles, reconnecting with the past, moving on with the future, this book was great.The characters were relatable, the topics intense. I could not put this book down, a definite must read. Underestimated did not end the way I envisioned, but now that it is over ... I see why. I see it all, I see every twist and every turn and the reason for every word. I would love a book 2, a movie, a novella, anything.
I would recommend Underestimated to anyone willing to take a ride on the wild side. You will not regret it!!

Synopsis:

Morgan starts her life in a bad situation, she doesn't really know what she wants out of life. She's never had anyone to look up to, or help guide her in the right direction. She had it rough, and never dreamed that it could get worse, however she finds that it can, and does.

She learns what real hell is when she meets the husband that she doesn't want to marry, but isn't given a choice. Can she escape? She can, and does only to wake up and find herself right back at square one

Lauren turned the radio to a country station. I hated country music. Brakes. Wait a minute. Drew hated country music. I had never actually listened to it. How could I hate it if I had never even listened to it? “Where’re you from?” Lauren asked as we painted and listened to something about somebody digging their keys into the side of somebody’s souped-up four-wheel drive. “Indiana,” I remembered. “What part? I have a cousin in Indiana.” And the questions begin. “Carson,” I answered with only that. “What brought you to Misty Bay? I know you didn’t come all the way here just to work with Starlight Scarlett in her weird little coffee shop.” “Now you’re scaring me,” I stated, hoping to get off topic. She laughed. “You will absolutely love Starlight. She is as Bohemian as they come. I just know that you didn’t move to this sectarian town for that purpose,” she assumed. “Are you calling this town a cult?” “Are you going to avoid my question all night?” she retorted with her own question. I smiled down at her from my step stool, which thank God she owned too. “I lost my job when they downsized, and my grandmother left me this house. I just decided it was time for a change.” I lied, hitting it right on the money. I smiled inside, proud that I remembered until I saw the look on her face. She knew I was lying. She knew my grandmother didn’t leave me this house. “If we’re going to be friends, you can’t lie to me,” she said, being exceedingly blunt. “My aunt owned this house up until last month. She owns mine too. That’s why they are both ugly blue.” I walked down the step stool to face her. “Lauren, please don’t ask me too many questions about my past. I am not running from the law or anything like that. I just need to keep a low profile,” I tried to reassure her. “Well, you need a better story,” she said, turned and started painting again. “People around here know that my aunt has owned these two houses for years.” Thanks a lot, Ms. K. Nice investigating skills. “I’ve got it,” she stated matter-of-fact. I looked down at her with a peculiar stare. Why would she be so zealous about helping me? I didn’t get it. “How old are you?” she asked, again bluntly. “I will be twenty five next month. Why?” “Perfect,” she alleged while I continued to look at her like she had two heads. “We went to college together, and when you lost your job, I told you about my aunt’s house, and you bought it,” Lauren exclaimed excited. “You didn’t tell anyone else the grandma story, did you?”
