LOVED this novel. I hadn't gotten a chance to read it yet, and with Bleeding Love releasing I knew it was time to jump in. Dani and Cohen's story was emotional and a wild ride. I got to jump right back into the Crops Security world without having it feel like a repeat story.
Cohen and Dani's story is one of unrequited love. Well, it is unrequited love that isn't so unrequited. I suppose a better way of putting it would be a story about saying 'The Heck' with what the rational mind says, this is something that needs to happen. This is fate.
Dani has been in love with Cohen her whole life. When he shipped off overseas the first time she said what her heart had known for a while and that was that. Though still pinging for him, Dani saw no chance. He just didn't see her like that.
Cohen has known that there was something between Dani and him for as long as he can remember. That day that she left it all out there helped him survive some very dark times. One thing he does know is that he won't take Dani if he can't have her forever. He doesn't think he can so he won't put her through that.
See what I mean? Unrequited, but not so much.
This novel was a wild ride. Dani was determined to get her man and she was going to do it now. To heck with waiting. I don't want to reveal too much since the last 40% of this book has you on your toes. You have no idea where it is going. It pulls you in and you are compelled to see it to the end. Like all Harper's previous novels. this has its twists that you don't see coming as well as the small hints you do catch.
"I'm also a selfish man, because even knowing all of that, it doesn't make a difference. It's you and me, baby. You and me against the world."
A story about finding love and doing all that you can to keep it.
Have you ever felt like you were living your life for a future that was predetermined? Like there was some bigger picture you just prayed you would someday see clearly? That picture has been crystal clear to me since I was old enough to recognize it for just what it was.
Or I should say recognize him for who he was.
I’ve loved Cohen Cage since I was a small child. He’s been my everything for the last twenty-two years. I’ve loved him through every girlfriend he’s ever brought home. Through his college years and then mine. I’ve loved him through two deployments. And ever since the day I told him how I felt, he’s acted like I’m a stranger.
My name is Danielle Reid, and it’s time for me to get my man.
Our future is an unexpected fate, and no matter what our parents, siblings, and friends say…it’s going to be worth every second of the fight to make it happen.
